The first weekend of April my boys and I ventured off to meet up with some friends at Smorgasburg LA. I should disclose that even though our house is about 17 miles from Downtown Los Angeles we hardly make it out there. During the week my husband and I spend countless hours in the traffic and crowds of the city, so on the weekends we like to stay away from all of that. With that being said, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to spend time with close friends and enjoy delicious food.
What is Smorgasburg?
Smorgasburg LA is the west coast’s rendition of the open air market that originated in Brooklyn. It began in LA just last year and it is open every Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The market consists of about 65 vendors. Most are food, but also include jewelry, clothes, and books. You can check out more about the vendors here.
The Sunday we went was “Family Day.” The market included small shops with children clothing and accessories. Unfortunately, we didn’t find anything that we absolutely loved, but we did have fun browsing around. The weather was somewhat cool compared to what we can expect in the summer so it was a nice day to enjoy the sun without getting sunburned.
We had the most fun eating. We decided to indulge and started off with dessert first. The first bite was delicious cupcakes from Viva Los Cupcakes. Nick and I had the “Duvalin” flavor which is a chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla, and strawberry candy spread from Mexico. As you can see, the cupcake was so good we couldn’t wait for a picture haha. My husband had the “tamal con mole” flavor, which tasted just like the name.
For lunch (or actually brunch) I had tinga tacos from Macheen. Once again, these were so delicious I didn’t have a chance to take pictures. My husband and Nick shared a pulled pork sandwich from Porchetta Republic.
The boys and I enjoyed our time at Smorgasburg. We arrived early to beat the crowd and were back home and ready to relax for Monday early in the afternoon. I would recommend to dress comfortable as you will be walking around. The sitting areas are also limited, once you get a table most people don’t move so if you’re not one of the lucky ones you will have to eat while walking or standing up.
I wore this beautiful dress I recently purchased at a local shop and paired it up with my super comfortable espadrilles from target. My little one was also dressed comfortable and we loaded up on the sunblock. I love how boat shoes look on him.
Note: I may receive commission from clicks or purchases made through links in this post at no additional cost to you.
If you’re in the LA area I would definitely recommend you drop by the Alameda Produce Market and see what all the fuss is about with Smorgasburg. There is no fee to get in and you get free 2 hour parking at the Row DTLA garage. One thing to keep in mind: although the market is family friendly [even on non family days] no pets are allowed into the market.
I hope you enjoyed our mini adventure. I promise I am getting more comfortable with the camera and vlogs will be coming soon. Is there something like this where you live? If you’re in the Los Angeles/ Orange County area, are there any places you recommend the boys and I visit?
XOXO – L.
