I love lip products as much as the next girl, so of course when Influenster told me they were sending over some complimentary Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink lippies I was ecstatic.
Note: I received the product for free from Influenster in exchange for my honest review. The content and opinions expressed are my own.
What is Influenster?
Influenster is a free website. You create an account, provide information about you, link your social media channels, and when they find a VoxBox that matches you, they will send you a short survey via e-mail. I believe whether you are chosen to receive a VoxBox depends on how you answer the survey. If you are selected you will receive a box of complimentary products, in exchange for your honest review. Using the Influenster app you can unlock badges by performing small tasks such as sharing the product on Instagram, etc. Some of the boxes include sample sized products, but others are full size. I have received a few boxes in just a couple of months and I still get excited when I receive a survey e-mail.
I received two colors to try, #20 “Pioneer” and #15 “Lover.” Pioneer is a bright red color while Lover is more of a subtle pink tone. I can definitely get away with wearing Lover to court, but not Pioneer.
I love it. It is sturdy and the white against the color of the lippies in a sense gives it a minimalistic feel. The square barrel holds .17 oz of product along with a sponge applicator.
While telling my husband about the product I said “it actually doesn’t smell bad.” Which of course prompted his question, “Do lip products generally smell bad?” Well – not all of them but some lack a sweet or pleasant smell. I found these to have a sweet vanilla fragrance which make me feel warm inside when I apply them.
Although I love lip products, I don’t wear them as much as I would like because I am always on the run. This is a problem because I cannot remember to reapply, and I do not want to be walking around the office with smudged lips. The other problem is that I usually apply the product once I reach my destination, like in that minute in between parking and running to the courthouse, so the application has to be quick and precise.
I found that the wand/sponge this product comes with makes application easy. It grabs just enough product as to now leave excess on my lips. Even the red color was quick and easy to apply. Unfortunately, I have tried other brands whose darker colors required multiple coats before my lips were fully covered, I’m looking at you Kat Von D. Overall, the colors are very pigmented.
The Kat Von D and ColourPop matte lippies left my lips feeling dry. The awesome thing about the Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink lippies is that my lips still felt very natural, despite the matte finish. And after using them my lips still look great, no signs of dryness here!
But does it stay on for 16 hours?
Maybelline claims that the colors will stay on your lips for up to 16 hours, and I have to agree. The first color I tried was Lover. I applied it in the morning (about 8 AM) when I arrived to the office and went on about my day. After several snacks, lunch, dinner, drinks, and my cleaning food off my lips, etc the color was still on. That day I went to sleep at about 2AM (it was the night before my son’s birthday party). I was amazed that at that time my lips were still fully covered with the product. I snapped a picture and a second later I was actually freaking out because it wouldn’t come off when I washed my face. In Maybelline’s defense, I do not own any sort of makeup remover (horrible, I know) so I would recommend an oil based remover to take the product off. I actually just saw the add for the Super Stay Eraser, so I will be purchasing this to make it easier on me.
Pioneer also held up very well. Let’s just say that it was intact after this past 4th of July’s BBQ lunch. It held up against trip tip and a baked potato.
The Final Verdict
Depending on where you buy these lip products, they go anywhere from $8 to about $10. Considering how much other brands charge for their lip products and the amazing quality of the Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink, I think the price is a steal. I definitely recommend. I already have my eyes on #50, Voyager. The only downfall I see here is that Maybelline has only released 10 shades, I think if they can work on more shades this will definitely be my go-to lip product for some time to come.
